Organizational Chart



Below are specific roles and responsibilities for each department:
  1. Financial Department
The financial department is responsible for management of the company’s cash flow and ensuring there are sufficient funds available to meet the day to day payments.
  1. Human Resources Department
The H&R department is responsible for staff recruitment and training, record keeping, compensation and benefits, insurance, and employee relations
  1. Purchasing Department
Purchasing department’s main role is purchasing supplies and materials used in the projects and company daily needs. They need to compare among different suppliers and finding the items with correct prices and qualities.
  1. Project Department
Project department is responsible for scheduling and managing for each project. The project manager needs to decide the budget, assign employees and their duties to complete the job, oversee the safety of workers. They need to make sure the construction work can be well completed according to the contract.
  1. Engineering Department
In general, the engineer department is responsible for the planning of the construction project. This includes conducting surveys, engaging in research, analyzing results, planning the construction and supporting all technical issues during the project.
  1. Marketing Department
The marketing department is responsible for market research, marketing strategy, sales, advertising, promotion, pricing, product development, and public relations activities.

BELT DRIVES

BELT DRIVES PRESENTATION

What is a belt?
A belt is a looped strip of flexible material used to mechanically link two or more
rotating shafts. A belt drive offers smooth transmission of power between shafts
at considerable distance. Belt drives are used as source of motion to transfer to
efficiently transmit power or to track relative movement.

TYPES OF BELT DRIVES BASED ON ARRANGEMENT:
Types of Belt drives based on the arrangement are as follows
OPEN BELT DRIVES
CROSSED OR TWIST BELT DRIVES
BELT DRIVE WITH IDLER PULLEYS
COMPOUND BELT DRIVE

OPEN BELT DRIVE

  • The Open belt drive is arranged with shafts arranged parallel and rotating in the same direction.
  • The driver pulls the belt  from one side and delivers it to the other side thus the tension in the one side belt will be more than that in the other side belt.
CROSSED BELT DRIVE

  • The crossed  or twist  belt drive is used with shafts arranged parallel and rotating in the opposite directions.
  • The tension in the tight side will be more than the slack side. The point where the belts rubs against each other and there will be excessive wear and tear.
  • To avoid this the shafts should be placed at a maximum distance of 20b where b is the width of the belt and the speed should be less than 15 m/s.

COMPOUND BELT DRIVE


  • A compound belt drive is used when power is transmitted from one shaft to another through a number of pulleys.
  •  The belts are connected in such a way that the driver moving one system of drives is simultaneously moving the other connected system.
IDLER PULLEY
1) Adjust tension and slack in the belt
2) Increase the belt contact area with pulley

For figures, make sure to include the figure number and a title with a legend and caption. These elements appear below the visual display. For the figure number, type Figure X. Then type the title of the figure in sentence case. Follow the title with a legend that explains the symbols in the figure and a caption that explains the figure. Example:

Mechanical Engineering Technology SBA

The school-based assessment (SBA) for CSEC Mechanical Engineering Technology  is comprised of  TWO projects.

  • Practical project
  • Written assignment

The weighting of the SBA component for the subject is 40% of the overall score.

1.   PRACTICAL PROJECT
The practical project involve candidates designing and producing a product based on modules 1-6, 8 & 9 of the syllabus and under the direction of your teacher (70 marks). This project must  NOT exceed the dimensions of 450 mm  deep  x 400 mm wide   x 675 mm long, nor must it exceed a weight of 2 kg. For the project you are also expected to provide a plan sheet (20 marks) which MUST include the following:
(i) Pictorial sketch
(ii) Orthographic (working) drawings
(iii) Steps of procedure
(iv) List of materials tools and equipment



2.    WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT
This is to be a technical report of about 1000-1200 words and MUST be based on a planned industrial tour.  This project is worth 30 marks.

All projects will be considered the property of CXC and will be retained by your school administration for the council until three  months after the publication of examination results.

GUIDELINES FOR THE PLANNED INDUSTRIAL TOUR
The factory should employ a minimum of twelve workers and use raw material and machinery in the production process.  Your report should be based on one or two visits to the factory, and on discussions with employees in the Mechanical Engineering Technology discipline of the operation.

Your report MUST adhere strictly to the criteria outlined in the CXC mark scheme.  However, it may include data on some of the following, providing that they relate to the topic of the report.

(i) Product(s) made
(ii) Management structure (organization chart)
(iii) Human Resource profile of persons employed (qualification, experience, job description, clas-
         sification, opportunity for promotion)
(iv) Process flow chart of the operation (from raw material to final product)
(v) Method(s) of production
(vi) Types and functions of machines in use
(vii) Types and sources of raw materials used
(viii) Marketing of the product
(ix) Safety programme
(x) Waste disposal
(xi) Environmental protection programme

Diagrams, charts and graphs should be included where appropriate.

The following types of manufacturing enterprises might be explored as possibilities for this report:
(a) Iron  and steel processing plant
(b) Bauxite/alumina plant
(c) Soft drinks or beer plants/breweries processing or packaging
(d) Food processing

CS = cutting speed in m/min
D = diameter of work in mm
N = spindle speed in revolutions per minute (RPM) in rev/min
π = the constant pie (3.142)

2. Spindle speed

Where:
CS = cutting speed in m/min
D = diameter of work in mm
N = spindle speed in revolutions per minute (RPM) in rev/min

3. Machining / Cutting Time

Where:
T = Cutting time in seconds.
L = length of cut in mm.
Q = number of cuts taken
